The occasion for the meeting was the announcement of the Golden Key award for outstanding teaching ability which the 82-year-old Miss Sweet will receive from Dr. Bunche at the convention of the American Association of School Administrators in Atlantic City on Saturday, 17 February. Dr. Bunche is the Golden Key Citizen of the Year who, in the words of the award citation, "has contributed significantly to the national welfare." As the Golden Key Citizen, Dr. Bunche is entitled to choose the teacher "who influenced him decisively at a formative stage in his life." Miss Sweet is his choice to receive the award, which carries a golden key and $1,000 in cash.
