Print, Photographic
Black and white print of a photo showing a childhood home of Dr. Ralph J. Bunche located at 1822 Macomb Street (far right), as well as adjacent homes to its left. A young girl poses with here arm outstretched on the lower left corner of the image, as a dog sits beside her on the curb, and two other children stand behind her. "Aug 15, 1953," and "Free Press Nov. 22 1952," are stamped on the verso. A label with a caption is adhered to the verso:
The house with veranda, at the right is "the boyhood home" of Dr. Ralph Bunche. It stands at 1822 Macomb Street, Detroit, Mich.
Biographical records available in Detroit describe Dr. Bunche's birthplace as near Hastings and Adams Street. This intersection in the better part of a mile from the Macomb address, and is not an intersection which would be used to identify an area sufficiently large to embrace the Macomb address.
It appears that it was a house to which his family moved at some alter time.
