Black and white aerial photo taken of the construction of the foundation for the Detroit Historical Museum, as viewed from a point above Woodward Avenue, facing southwest. An excavator pours dirt into a dump truck on the west end of the site. Work has begun on footing around several edges of the site. The museum's Services Building stands at the northwest corner of the lot. Several sheds have been erected on the Kirby Street side of the lot. A caption printed in the lower right corner of the photo reads, "Detroit Historical Museum - 1st Unit. City of Detroit, Michigan. William Edward Kapp - Arch't. Contractor: O.W. Burke Company. Date: 9-7-50 No. 4." A logo for East Side Photographic, at 12755 Harper Avenue is printed on the verso. A strip of green cloth tape along a tab for binding the photo in an album is attached along its left edge.
