Print, Photographic

Signed sepia-toned photo of Kaye Don shaking Gar Wood's hand in the Whittier Hotel beside the Weyhing Trophy, which Don won for the fastest lap during the 1931 Harmsworth Trophy race. The photo is signed by both men. Don's inscription reads, "Yours [...] sincerely, 1946." Wood's inscription reads, "Yours sincerely, Gar Wood, 1946." A newspaper clipping from the Detroit Times of a caption about the photo is pasted on the verso:

British Racer Gets Speed Trophy
Kaye Don and Gar Wood apparently have decided to forger their clash of Monday when Gar out-tricked the Englishman and retained possession of the Harmsworth Trophy for another year, at least. Today, at the Whittier Hotel, Don (left) shook hands with Gar Wood after he (Don) received a trophy from Weyhing brothers, for making the fastest lap. Don traveled 93.017 miles an hour during the second lap Sunday. This is the fastest time in the history of the Harmsworth competition.
