The street sign, "Bates St." is visible on the building corner near the upper left corner of the photo. Probably, the building in the background was the old Police Headquarters building which was located at the intersection of Bates, Randolph, and Farmer Streets. Portions of two windows and a doorway in the upper area of the photo have been filled in with black ink.
