Visible businesses and landmarks along the west side of the street include the New York Central System Third Street Freight Station, a bar, Fort Street Union Station, and a radio broadcast tower with a sign reading "NEWS." Another bar, the Boat Pier Dining Room, the Savoy Restaurant, a hotel, the Fort Street Presbyterian Church, and a radio broadcast tower marked "WWJ." Cars, trucks, and several pedestrians are in the streets. Handwriting on verso reads, "3rd St--looking up towards Fort from Jefferson, D&C Dock at River, Savoy Restaurant, c. late 1930s-40, gift of Mrs. William B. Gregory 4/94."
