Caption reads: In one of the most severe "torture tests" of a car's drive train (engine, transmission, drive shaft and differential), the transmission is shifted from forward to reverse and back again repeatedly at full throttle. The smoke is from burning tire tread. This was one of 18 demonstrations at the recent 40th anniversary of the GM Proving Ground at Milford, Mich.
