Black and white photographic print depicting a 2-door hardtop car hitting an obstacle on a test track at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford. In the background is a cameraman with a tripod.
Caption reads: A GM test car with an instrumented dummy in the front seat clips off the three legs of this experimental light-weight tripod street lamp base with little damage to the car and no resulting injuries had there been people in the car. This demonstration was part of the (May 14) 40th anniversary of the establishment of the main GM Proving Ground at Milford, Mich. In addition to vehicle safety and other automotive development work at the Proving Ground, much has been done toward improving "highway environment" through elimination of hazardous conditions along the roadside. Sign in background indicates completion of 300 million test miles at the Proving Ground this month.
