Photograph. Sepia-toned photo of a Wayne County Road Commission workman. He is operating a truck-mounted coring machine that is being used to take samples of concrete pavement from a new section of road. One core sample, marked "DD1," is resting on a flat surface above the painted text on the side of the truck that shows "Wayne County Road Comm." The core samples would be taken to a lab for examination and testing in order to check the quality of the concrete mixture and the compressive strength. The truck #802 has license plate #116 which is dated 1929. Trees, a metal fence, and a utility pole with overhead wires can be seen in the background. Handwritten text in the lower right corner of the photo shows "8-26-29" and "24103." A black ink stamp on the verso shows "Smith Brothers, Commercial Photographers, Arcadia Building, Woodward & Stimson, Detroit, Mich." A typewritten note on the verso shows "See page 16, Oct., 1935, Motor News."
