Black and white photo of the Beaver Island Head Lighthouse, overlooking Lake Michigan, as viewed from South End Road to the southwest. A typewritten caption previously pasted to the verso read:
Like a lonely sentinel of the past this light house guards the south end of the island and the channel between Beaver Island and the North Fox Island.
It was built by the Mormons in 1851 and rebuilt in 1891. It is now automatically run by the coast guard and has a powerful beacon and twin fog horn.
"1964," was handwritten on the pasted caption. A typewritten label credits the image to "Mrs. Mary A Clarke, R # 1 Box 364. Augusta, Michigan."
