Black and white photo of the sign over the entrance to the grounds of Mission Point Lighthouse, overlooking Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan. The sign reads, "You are now standing on the 45th parallel, or half way between the North Pole and the equator. This lighthouse was built in 1870," and contains a map of the bay. A woman holding a picnic basket stands below the sign, reading it. The rear of Mission Point Lighthouse stands in the background. Even further, the waters of the bay are visible. A typewritten caption previously pasted on the verso reads, "A favorite of sightseers and camera fans is Old Mission Lighthouse, located halfway between the North Pole and the equator in Grand Traverse County. The lighthouse is one of the first erected on the Great Lakes. "Motor News, Automobile Club of Michigan, 139 Bagley, Detroit 26, Michigan," is also stamped on the verso, beside the handwritten note, "328-9."
