Black and white photo taken from the promenade of a passenger boat entering the Sabin Lock, part of the Soo Locks, through the eastern gates. Three other passengers watch in the foreground near the boat's railing. Beyond them the near gates of the Sabin Lock are swing open. The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge spans the canal in the distance. "Cruise boat enters the mighty Sabin Lock, where it will rise to Lake Superior level, 21 feet higher. In lock chambers, water is admitted or released by controlled gravity flow through passages under or around the lock gates." is typewritten on a caption pasted to the verso, beneath a handwritten note which indicates that the image was used on page 22 of the May 1965 issue of "Motor News."
