Black and white photo of the port side of the McQueen Marine, Ltd. tug ATOMIC headed down the Detroit River with the city's skyline in the background. The Dime Building, Penobscot, Ford Building, Buhl Building, and Guardian Building are all visible. The bow of a docked Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company ship is visible at the left edge of the frame, along with a large crowd waiting along the shore. A typewritten caption was previous pasted to the verso:

This is the ATOMIC, winner of last year's international tugboat race, which races again this year on May 19 in the Detroit River as one of the principal aquatic features of Detroit's 250th Birthday Festival. The Atomic is owned by J. Earl McQueen, of Amherstberg, Ontario, who held the rank of Commodore in the Canadian Navy in World War II. A score of Americans and Canadian workboats will be pitted against him in the only tugboat race of its kind in the world. Detroit's skyline is in the background.
