Black and white aerial photo of a helicopter aiding in construction on the top of the Renaissance Center. The City-County Building, the downtown Greyhound terminal, the First National Building, the Michigan Consolidated Gas Building, the Guardian Building, the Penobscot, the National Bank of Detroit Building, and the Ford Building are visible in the background through a haze of snow. Snow also covers the ground and roof tops. A typewritten caption, stamped "Jan 19 1977," is pasted on the verso:
Sky Hook attached to a Sikorsky S64E lowers the 100-ton, 200-foot construction crane from the top of the 73-story Detroit Plaza which is nearing completion in downtown Detroit. The crane removal was completed in only a few hours despite frigid temperatures and snow squalls. The Plaza, Detroit's candidate for the title of tallest hotel in the world, opens March 1. It is the center spire in the $337-million Renaissance Center.
