Print, Photographic
Print. Black and white photographic print which previously had a typewritten passage pasted on its verso that read:
A fitting symbol for Labor Day--a member of Detroit Parks and Recreation Local 542 chops wood as a float moves down Woodward Avenue toward the City Hall steps in the Labor Day parade. The float was a winner of a trophy as "most unique." More than 175 local unions participated in the annual Labor Day parade, highlighted by a speech by AFL-CIO Vice President Walter P. Reuther. -Hal DeLong
Also attached was newspaper clipping, presumably from Labor News, of the image which was captioned with a paraphrase of the above. The photo was taken on Woodward Avenue, just south of Campus Martius, and Fort Street, facing south. The float is passing the National Bank of Detroit Building which is under construction and covered with scaffolding. A portion of the Guardian Building, people marching in the parade with signs, and Ford Auditorium are visible in the background. "3 5/8 inches, Labor News, -bug-," is handwritten on the verso.
