Photograph (and 1 copy). Black and white photo of a schematic drawing that shows the general operation of a coal-burning electric power plant. The view shows coal being unloaded from a freighter at the upper left side of the image. The coal is then carried by elevating conveyors to the plant where it is burned in order to produce thermal energy to boil water and thereby create pressurized steam. The steam turns the turbines which drive the generating units in order to create electricity. The electricity then leaves the plant where it is sent out to the service grid via a network of transmission lines and substations that ultimately brings the electricity to the customer (industrial, farm, commercial, residential).
