The name of the ship is not visible, but the smokestack design indicates that it may belong to the American Steamship Company. Downtown Detroit buildings can be seen in the background including the Penobscot Building, Guardian Building, Ford Building, and First National Building. The City-County Building (now called the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center) can be seen under construction near the center right area of the photo. The ship with the white hull that is moored on the riverfront is the "North American" of the Chicago, Duluth & Georgian Bay Transit Company (Georgian Bay Line).
