Print, Photographic
Print. Black and white photographic print, taken from an elevated vantage point, of the continuing construction on the eighteen story addition to The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store on the corner of Woodward and Grand River Avenues. A majority of the steel structure is clad in wood, while the bottom third is clad in stone and brick. The top tiers of floors have yet to be clad in any materials, however; construction workers are visibly working on the interior and exterior components of the new structure. Trucks and a horse carriage carrying materials are parked on Grand River. Pedestrians are visible in the background, walking on the sidewalk in front of the existing building. Signage affixed to the scaffolding features an image depicting the completed structure and reads, "THE GREATER HUDSON STORE PLANNED BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN A GREATER DETROIT." Liggett's Drug Store is visible in the left foreground. The photography studio and the geographic location are embossed on the recto, "Manning Bros., Detroit." Also, the photographic sequence number is printed on the bottom of the recto, "90481."
