Print. Black and white photographic print of the early construction stages of the eighteen story addition to The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. The north elevation of the structure is visible along Grand River with work trucks parked along the curb neighboring the construction. Automobiles and pedestrians are visible on Woodward Avenue in the foreground. Signage affixed to the corner of the building reads, "The Greater Hudson Store, Planned Because We Believe in a Greater Detroit." The neighboring Hudson's buildings are visible in the background. Also, in the left background at the intersection of Grand River and Farmer is L.B. King & Company. The name of the photography studio and their geographic location are embossed on the bottom of the recto, "Manning Bros., Detroit." Also printed on the bottom of the recto is the photographic sequence number, "89374."
