Black and white photo of a Detroit Edison EHV (extra high voltage) substation. The view shows Grand Trunk Western Railroad tracks in the foreground with a complex arrangement of electrical power equipment in the background. An accompanying typewritten note shows "DE Photo 832-136. Three Extra-High Voltage Stations are included in the 345,000 volt transmission loop around the metropolitan Detroit area. Shown above is the Pontiac Station; the other two EHV stations on Edison's system are Wayne and St. Clair. All have similar designs, with huge equipment (note man in center foreground), weighing up to 350 tons, to handle the extra high voltages."
