Photograph (and 1 copy). Black and white photo showing an electric meter box, radio-controlled meter box, junction box, and air conditioner on the side of a typical suburban house. A typewritten note on the verso shows "#8A-75-24. Special remote controlled meters (center) are being used by Detroit Edison in a program testing management of peak energy demands on the company's electrical system. A number of southeastern Michigan residents have volunteered to take part in a study which permits the control of their air conditioning systems. Edison has had similar radio controls on the flow of electricity to water heaters since 1968. The conventional residential electric meter is shown on the left.
