Photograph. Black and white photo that shows vehicles and equipment used for setting utility poles. A truck-mounted drilling rig has backed down an embankment and is resting on a mud mat support which allows the drilling work to be completed without sinking into the soft ground. Two workmen are standing by the drilling rig while other workmen and vehicles are on the road at the top of the embankment. The project site is located in a rural area as indicated by the farm buildings in the background. The embankment is covered with field grass and melting snow. A typewritten note on the verso shows "Pole setting equipment mounted on conventional drive vehicles reached off-the-road sites through the use of 'mud mats,' [timber] beams fastened together serving as portable bridges. Detroit Edison, Public Affairs Department, 2000 Second Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48226, (313) 237-8850."
