Black and white photograph a group of children on a tour of the Detroit Historical Museum gathered around a large model of a proposed design for Detroit's riverfront from the City Planning Committee in the museum's Round Hall. A woman in coat, and a man in a vest, tie, and peaked cap identified on the verso as William King, their guide, stand behind the ground. Two other women stand in the background on the right. In the model a rotunda stands to the west of the Veterans Memorial Building. To the left of the Veterans Memorial Building, in the present location of Hart Plaza lay a grassy field dotted with several trees, and containing what appears to be a oval shaped pond in the center. On the east end of the field stands an amphitheater. A building somewhat resembling the City-County Building stands on its site. The Guardian Building and Buhl Building are also included in the model. In the background, cases containing dioramas depicting events the landing of Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac (1951.302.002); the arrival of Marie Therese Guyon Cadillac in Detroit (1951.302.003); and Major Robert Rogers accepting the French surrender of Detroit (1951.302.004) are exhibited around the circumference of the room. "Children touring museum, 1954, William King, guide, Wayne U. photo, City Plan Comm. Exhibit," is printed on a label affixed to the verso.
