Black and white photographic print of a diorama depicting the first railroad train in Detroit, which arrived in 1838; the diorama was displayed in window number 9 of The J.L. Hudson Company department store in 1951. Signage in the right foreground of the window reads, "Detroit Historama, First Railroad Train in Detroit, on Michigan Central, 1838. The first railroad to actually run a train over its right-of-way was the Michigan Central under the ownership of the State of Michigan. Work was begun in earnest to build up the railroad and in January of 1838 it was opened to Dearborn. In 1846, it reached Kalamazoo. From that point to St. Joseph a stage coach was run to connect with boats to Chicago" Also, signage in the window's central foreground reads, "You are cordially invited to see 'Detroit Historama's display of many exhibits and merchandise of 250 years, July 23 through August 2, 12th Floor Auditorium, No Admission Charge." The date and photographic sequence number are printed on the bottom of the recto, "7-25-51; 25246-9x."
