Print, Photographic
Black and white photographic print of an interior view of the Collector's Corner Exhibit, titled " That This Nation Might Live," featured inside the Detroit Historical Museum, 1965. Typed on the image verso, "An exhibit of postcards from the private collections of members of the Wolverine Post Card Club - commemorating some of the highlights of the Civil War." Also, signage affixed to the left side of the exhibit reads, " That This Nation Might Live; Foreign threat has strengthened America; internal conflict brought the nation close to collapse. A century ago, no one could ignore the stark reality of the Civil War. On exhibit here is the graphic account of some of the highlights of that struggle, a collection of post cards from the Wolverine Post Card Club. Founded in 1954, this nations non-profit organization gives post card enthusiasts an opportunity to meet with fellow collectors, to discuss and promote their hobby, and to provide facilities for buying, selling, and exchanging post cards. The club holds meetings, open to the public, on the third Tuesday of every month (except August and December) at the Detroit Historical Museum. Each of the more than one hundred active members specializes in collecting in a category of personal interest. The resulting diversity is limitless - from stained glass to fences. These Civil War cards are the result of the efforts of both local collectors and those from other states. They are a tribute to the brave men who fought and died, " that this nation might live."
