Blueprint

Insignia,
OB 50

One blueprint drawing entitled, "Insignia." The drawing shows a decorative wing emblem with the letters/numbers, "OB 50," at the center. A legend near the lower left corner of the drawing indicates the color scheme for the emblem. The title block in the lower right corner shows that the drawing was prepared by "Gar Wood Industries, Inc., Detroit, Michigan," and is dated November 27, 1935. The plan number is shown as "JW-30."

Possibly, the emblem commemorated a hydroplane race or special event in honor of Otto F. Barthel or his brother, Oliver E. Barthel. Both brothers and Gar Wood were members of the Detroit Yacht Club and were involved with hydroplane racing in the early 1900's.
