Beyond the Difference

1 - Large hard-cover book-format report from New Detroit, Incorporated detailing their efforts and challenges in addressing "urban ills" following the unrest of 1967. The book delves into issues including strained police-community and race relations (including the New Bethel Incident), housing, education, and resistance to the group itself. The text is supplemented with black and white photographs of conditions around the city, as well as of New Detroit meetings. This copy was presented to Representative William B. Fitzgerald, as his name is stamped on the cover, and a type-written letter addressed to him from New Detroit chairman Max M. Fisher, dated January 12, 1970 is included inside the front cover.
