Chop Talk: Wining, Dining and Night Life in Old Detroit, 1701-1951
Staple-bound special issue of the London Chop House periodical published in August 1951 in celebration of 250th anniversary of Detroit's founding, containing information about the history of alcohol, bars, and other drinking establishments in the city, ranging from the brandy that was rationed to Antoine De La Mothe Cadillac's soldiers to the parties held following the repeal of prohibition. A series of cartoons illustrate the booklet. The booklet is dedicated to the London Chop House's late chef, Eddie Dobler, "The Perch King," along with the rest of the London Chop House staff, and was prepared with the help of the staff of the Burton Historical Collection, George W. Stark, Royce Howes of the Detroit Free Press, Jerry Pettit of the Detroit Times, "and countless others." On the cover, a cartoon of a man in a 19th century suit and hat raises a glass beside a large outline of a champagne flute containing the title. "George Stark, Not a bad job at all. -Bill Scripps," is handwritten in the upper right corner.
