Elect Coleman Young Mayor
Your future depends on it!

Campaign booklet from Coleman A. Young's first run for mayor in 1973, published by the Downtown Young for Mayor Committee. Each two-page spread within contains a half-tone image of Young, and a passage on a different theme. "Growing Up in Detroit," provides a brief biography of Young and features a photo of him outside of Sidney D. Miller Junior High School. "Service to the People," lists Young's efforts in the realms of civil rights and labor, and is accompanied by a photo of him addressing a group of people. "Leading the Fight for Labor's Rights," further details Young's union history and includes a photo of him interacting with two workers in front of a large piece of outdoor machinery. "A Successful Businessman Who Understands Business Needs," covers Young's business experience, relating it to his familiarity with the needs of "the small or the minority businessman." On these pages, Young is photographed in close-up seated in an office. "An Outstanding Record of Accomplishment as Senator," describes Young's terms in the Michigan State Senator, and includes a photo of him speaking from a podium. The back page of the booklet paints Detroit as a great city in need of proper leadership, and proposes Young as the ideal candidate. A photo beneath captures Young leaning over a scale model of downtown Detroit.
