Booklet compiled and sold by Civil War veteran Charles L. Cummings of the 28th Michigan Infantry Volunteers, containing his own story of his service and the hardships that followed in his return to civilian life, including the titular accident involving a slippery railroad station platform. Cummings' autobiographical account is accompanied by other prose pieces, poetry, prayers, and even a joke relating to the experiences of Civil War soldiers. An engraving of Cummings supporting himself on crutches is printed on the cover.
