Brochure

Three-panel brochure for the Operators' Training School, for telephone operators, located on the corner of John R Street and Madison Avenue. The recto is titled "Teachers in the Operators' Training School, and shows a portrait of the principal Mrs. Lena Smith, and a group of teachers: Bernita Stump, Soul Fenner, Marie Kelly, Elizabeth Smith, Irene Stopper, Harriett Condie, Helen Brennen, Adaline Stanley, Madeline Harning, and Nettie O'Niel. The left panel of the verso contains a message from Miss E.C. Chambers, "a chief operator in a Detroit telephone exchange, extolling the benefits of the profession for "intelligent and ambitious girl[s]." The center and right panels each have a photograph, printed sideways, of students at the school engaged in outdoor activities--an egg rolling competition and a game of tennis on court beside a brick building and a pile of large spools of cable at the "Market exchange."
