Taking Down the Fleet for 1927
One advertising card from the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Company. The card is printed on heavy white paper and shows a multicolor drawing of a frog who is taking ships down from a warehouse loft for launching. A second frog is dancing on the dock and waving to a D&C passenger steamship that can be seen underway in the distance on the lake. Printed text on the lower left side of the card shows "Navigation Opens March 23rd between Detroit and Cleveland. Daily overnight service thereafter until Dec. 1st. Fast freight schedule at low rates. We will accept freight at both ports for shipment as late as 10 P.M., assuring next morning delivery. Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Company." A small inset map shows connections between Detroit, Chicago, Mackinac Island, Buffalo, and Cleveland. The "D&C Lake Lines" logo is shown at the lower right corner of the card. The name of the printer, "Van Leyen - Hensler Co.," is shown near the lower left corner.
