Surrounding it are smaller sailing ships and steamers. Detroit is in the background. The domed roundhouse of the Michigan Central Railroad yard is visible among the buildings. A note in the corner credits the engraving to an 1852 issue of Gleason Pictorial, and the etching to Charles E. Curry.
