Card, Trade

Three trade cards pasted to a piece of cardstock. A C.R. Mabley trade card, printed with a color lithograph of the store's exterior at 122 to 134 Woodward Avenue, is pasted on the card's recto. The image is credited to Sackett, Wilhelms, and Betzig of New York. The right edge of the card is printed with a list of the store's wares and services, "Clothing, Custom Tailoring, Boots, Shoes, Hats, Caps, Gentlemen's Fine Furnishings." Cards for both Dunham's Concentrated Cocoanut and Garland Stoves and Ranges are adhered side-by-side to the verso. The Dunham's card depicts a stereotypical scene of two dark-skinned men gathering coconuts in a tropical setting, as a monkey in a palm tree drops a coconut on one of their heads. This image is credited to the Calvert Lithographing Company. The Garland card is credited to George M. Hayes, dated 1881, and features and image of a cat overturning an ornate table set for a fancy meal, as two well-dressed mice scramble to escape.
