Card, Trade

Trade card from the Michigan Stove Company advertising Garland Stoves and Ranges. A lithograph, attributed to "Chas. Shields Sons 20 & 22 Gold St N.Y," depicts a man in wealthy gentleman's clothing, holding a long-barreled gun, looking quizzically down at a dead pig while the pig's owner, a farmer holding a pitchfork, points his hand down at the pig and angrily says something to the gentleman. On the verso is an early Garland Stoves and Ranges logo with a stamp below it that reads "Sold by Toepel Bros, 180 Gratiot Ave".
