Certificate

One Detroit Common Council resolution issued to honor the life and achievements of American journalist, Horace Greeley, who had recently died (November 29, 1872). The resolution was printed as a memorial certificate in "Old English" style text on white paper. It has a decorative border with the initials, "HG," at the top and the red, embossed seal of the City in the lower left corner. The certificate was signed by the Mayor, H [Hugh] Moffat, and members of the Board of Aldermen in the lower right corner area of the sheet.
