Decree

Decree, written in French on parchment paper, on behalf of André Marcy the mayor of Saintes, Charente-Maritime, France to the City of Detroit and its inhabiants, in appreciation of the mosaic of Saintes-born Father Gabriel Richard in the Greyhound Bus Terminal. The document is dated December 1, 1958, and includes the coat of arms of Saintes both at the top of the document, as well as on a wax seal affixed to a ribbon attached to the document.
The text reads:
La ville de Saintes transmet son salut cordial à la Ville de Detroit et à ses habitants.
Elle leur adresse l’expression de sa sympathie et de sa vive reconnaissance pour l’hommage rendu à la mémoire du courageux: Gabriel Richard né à Saintes en 1767.
