I remember the 67 riot as if it was yesterday. I was only 13 years old at the time. July 23 in the morning is when it all began. I believe there was a lot of screaming out side. When we got outside, Linwood was burning, the gas station on the corner of Linwood and Pingree exploded and 9 houses and the gas station burned down. The house we lived in was #10 to burn, the roof caught on fire but the fire department got there just in time to save our home. All we could do was watch the fires and cry for days. People were homeless and we had no stores to shop. There was a lot of looting, shootings. I had never seen the national guard before or heard of them. It was very devastating and scary. I will remember that horrible time in history for the rest of my life. I made sure my children knows what happened and how very unnecessary and how evil it was. Thank You for allowing me to express my feelings.
