New 1945 Rear End - Friction Trans. [Transmission]
One drawing entitled "New 1945 Rear End- Friction Trans. [Transmission]." The drawing consists of black pencil on vellum paper and shows a left side profile view of the rear end of a proposed automobile. Various internal and exterior details are shown including the car body, frame, rear wheel, suspension spring, and transmission components as well as design notes. A handwritten note near the upper right corner of the sheet shows "See 1/2 size layout of friction trans. & jackshaft and chain case design on separate sheet of manila paper - that drawing dated 1921." A handwritten note at the lower right edge shows "14" friction wheels - chain drive forward from jackshaft to road wheels which are carried independently on chain cases acting as radius rods - no through axle used." The drawing is signed, "JSB [James Scripps Booth] Oct-11-45," in the lower right corner of the sheet.
