Steering Gear & Rudder Assembly
One plan sheet entitled "Steering Gear & Rudder Assembly." This sheet is a blackline reproduction that shows the drawing and text in black on mylar. It shows a starboard side profile view of the propeller, rudder, and steering gear arrangement in the stern section of a steamship. The title block in the lower right corner shows that the plan was prepared by the "Great Lakes Engineering Works [GLEW], Hull Dept., River Rouge, Mich." at a scale of 1/2 inch = 1 foot and is dated October 30, 1951. Notes above the title block indicate that this steering gear & rudder assembly was used on the following ships:
SS William Clay Ford, GLEW Hull No. 300
SS Edward B. Greene, Toledo Hull No. 189
SS George M. Humphrey, Lorain Hull No. 869
SS Arthur M. Anderson, Lorain Hull No. 869.
The drawing number is shown as "867H-S22-0-8." A circular stamp to the left of the title block shows "The American Ship Building Co., Cleveland, U.S.A."
