Cutaways: New Center MOS
and Awards, Blue Pigs

Silent 16mm color workprint from the Sue Marx production, "This Is My Home, This Is Detroit," including shots of the Detroit Edison and GranDetroit 1985 Bright and Beautiful block club award ceremony, exteriors of the Coleman A. Young Community Center, several ethnic grocery stores, and several other brief shots around the city.

The shots from the Bright and Beautiful awards include the GranDetroit banner over the stage, a honoree's certificates and awards, crowd shots, and the Detroit Police Department's Blue Pigs performing.

Coleman A. Young Community Center exterior shots show the entrance, Fenimore Court Apartments and Regency Tower from the enter's parking lot, and kids playing basketball on the court south of the center.

The footage also features several businesses and locations in ethnic neighborhoods. The Citizen's District Council building on the east Bagley Avenue, and St. Anne Street, in Mexicantown is featured in two shots. One shows part of the mural on the side of the building. The footage also contains Interior and exterior of shots La Colmena Supermercado (Honey Bee Supermarket) on Bagley Avenue in Mexicantown. There is also an exterior shot of Warrendale Meats, a Polish grocery store at 19340 West Warren Avenue in Warrendale. Also presumably in Warrendale is an adjacent shot of a building decorated with Polish flags, and paintings. There are also several interior shots of an unidentified
Middle Eastern grocery store, possibly Yaloo Imported Foods at 800 West Seven Mile Road (as shown in 2015.007.029)

The reel also includes brief shots around the New Center Commons apartments, and of a woman jogging beside the riverfront.
