Georgian Bay
Silent color 16mm film containing home movies presumably shot by a member of the family of John S. and Hazel B. Nawrot. The reel includes footage from a cruise around Georgian Bay, the family's cottage in Lake Orion, trips to Belle Isle, and of a house.
The film opens with the family on board a passenger steamer which is leaving from harbor, presumably in Georgian Bay. The town features several piers, and a shipyard. The camera rolls as passengers relax in deck chairs. The camera also captures a lighthouse on a rocky cliff and a sunset on the lake.
In the next section takes place on Kelly's Island on Lake Orion. After a brief shot of a dog, the camera pans around the grounds of the Nawrot's cottage "Olive" on Kelly's Island on Lake Orion. Then twom woman are film walking with the dog outside of the neighboring cabin "Golden Inn," which belonged to Hazel Nawrot's brother Frank Stuart. The camera continues to shoot a a string of scenes of the family around the grounds of the cottages and aroundLake Orion. During a shot of a man getting into a car, the "Olive" sign can be seen on a fence. At one point the family takes the camera along while rowing around the lake.
Then the action moves to the Detroit River. A group of sailboats are shown off the north side of Belle Isle. Then members of the familya re fmiled awalking around the grounds of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle.
Following a brief shot from a house's backyard, the family then visits a path a the bottom of a hill alongside a river.
Then, after another cut, the film returns to the grounds of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. Here the camera captures the Levi L. Barbour Memorial Fountain, the building's exterior, several pans around its interior, close-ups of its flowers, and a pan around the lily pond.
Then the camera rolls as a fireboat makes of display of using its hoses on the Detroit River. The camera also pans around the river capturing water intake crib.
Several shots follow of rowing teams on a dock and on the water, before a series of shots of flowers in a backyard garden, members of the family, and of a two story brick house on a residential street.
In the final portion of the reel, members of the family, as well as their dog, are filmed around the ground of the cottage "Olive" in Lake Orion.
The film is on a metal reel housed within a metal canister. "Georgian Bay" is faintly written on the lid of the canister. A handwritten note included in the tin reads, "Dull, 1941-20, Canada, Georgian Bay, Lake Boats, Color, Flowers, Back Yard."
