Invitation

Half-folded invitation and envelope to the placing of the memorial tablet for Lizzie Merrill Palmer at Merrill-Palmer School on October 21, 1927. The Merrill family coat of arms, with the motto, "Qui Vincit Patitur," is printed in the lower right corner of the cover of the invitation. A quotation from Palmer, and information on the occasion are printed within:

'I hold profoundly the conviction that the welfare of any community is divinely, and hence inseparably, dependent upon the quality of its motherhood, and the spirit and character of its homes, and moved by this conviction I hereby give, devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my Estate... for the founding endowment and maintenance of a school to be known as the Merrill-Palmer Motherhood and Home Training School'

On the occasion of the placing of a tablet to the memory of Lizzie Merrill Palmer the trustees and directors of the Merrill-Palmer School request your presence from three to six o'clock on Friday afternoon, October twenty-first, seventy-one Ferry Avenue East
Detroit, Michigan To meet the staff and students and to survey the accomplishment of seven years.
