Letter

Six page handwritten letter from Grace Stoddard Vernor to ???, on her stationery with, "Mrs. James Vernor, Jr. Bloomfield Hills, Michigan," as the letterhead. In the letter she expresses excitement about the unnamed recipient's upcoming trip to Algiers, and shares news about her health. The letter reads:

My dear- I was so glad to get your little note. Was swiftly[?] desolate for new of you. Its been ages since your last letter.
Tickled to pieces for you that you are going to have such a nice trip. Wish I were going with you. You have a lot of nice surprises in store for yourself. Some day perhaps I shall go once[?] again.
I would love to spend some time in Algiers. It will be your first glimpse of the Orient[?] a chance which no other part can offer.
Your first sight of Algiers as your ship approaches the fort will, I am sure remain long in your memory--as it has in mine. It is, I think the most beautiful sight on the Mediterranean. To the right [?] the old mature city, which consists of quaint buildings all huddled together in a confused and daggling mass, crowned by the remains of the old Turkish citadels, the one time palace of the Deys, with all the filth of the wild[?] thrown in.
Directly behind the fort, stretches a magnificent façade of modern buildings, behind which and away to the left lies the beautiful residential quarter of Mustafha Superieur (I guess that is the way they spell it) any way who the hell cares, with such beauty every where.
The Moorish villas stand among patches of [?] and the most glorious gardens across the bay-you will see the Atlas Mountains in all their grandeur and wondrous beauty.
The town is a [?]. On the water side, streets darkened by the over hanging houses and filled with a curious [?] of white robed men & women-I could go on forever raving but why not let you find some of the joys yourself.
I'm so sorry things are no better for you. Wish I could help you. Just seems we all have a cross to drag around with us. That will make you smile. Your funny little smile, I can just see you.
Have had another cold and been off my "dorgies" for a few weeks, but I'm coming back fast. Have made [?] plans for a trip. My family want me to go away more[?], but I'm not going if I can stick it out.
When you are having lunch on the porch of the Hotel St. George at Algiers, please take a tiny little drink for me. [?] at Soverato[?]. That's the place to spend your honeymoon. ??? if you ever have another. After that there will be so much for you to crowd in. Make a lot of notes[?] [?] will have a big trip going on yours and mine when you get back.
Take very good care of yourself my dear and don't forget your prayers. You will need a lot of them when you hit Paris.
My very best wishes for a very very pleasant and a safe trip.
