Letter addressed "Dear Hudsonian," from P. Gerald Mills, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the J.L. Hudson Company announcing the closure of the downtown Hudson's, dated July 14, 1982. Mills explains that all employees will be transferred to other stores, and relates the reasons for the closure. He explains that sales had been on the decline at the location despite efforts to boost it, the proposed Cadillac Mall project was not gaining support from other downtown retailers, and that shoppers were opting to venture to shopping malls instead. A phone number for questions about the closure is also provided. The letter is printed on Mills' stationery.
