Official Log
One ship's log book for the bulk carrier, SS ARCTURUS, of the Interlake Steamship Company. The softcover log book has a simulated brown leather cover with a metal ring spine. Gold-colored text is stamped on the front that reads "The Interlake Steamship Company, Official Log." It contains approximately 200 white paper pages with pre-printed light blue and red lines and columns as well as black printed text for column headings. Entries have been made in handwritten black pen text for items such as date, time, place, compass course, wind direction, weather conditions, vessel speed, and remarks. A typewritten mileage table is attached to the inside front cover. A Plimsoll mark sketch is shown on the first page that indicates seasonal load limits. A typewritten list of masters, mates, and stewards for the company fleet is attached to the inside back cover.
The first log entries are for Trip No. 1 from Toledo to Duluth on April 3-27, 1957. The final log entries are for Trip No. 14 from Indiana Harbor to South Chicago to Taconite Harbor on August 6-14, 1957. Index tabs have been attached to pages to mark each trip.
