Menu

Half-folded J.L. Hudson Company Dining Rooms menu, dated July 22, 1949, bearing the painting "U.S. Coast Guard Cutter MACKINAW," by Carlos Lopez on the front cover surrounded by a blue border. The painting depicts the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker MACKINAW at work breaking up an ice floe and was part of the Michigan on Canvas touring exhibit put together by the J.L. Hudson Company. A passage on the back cover explains both the exhibit and the painting. Within the menu is divided into the sections "Soups and Appetizers," "Shopper's Luncheon One Dollar," "Sandwiches," "Desserts," "Fruits," "Hudson Made Ice Cream and Sundaes," and "Beverages." The prices of the Tom Coryate salad have been revised in pen. A note along the bottom of the menu's interior informs, "Detroit's Police Department asks everyone's help in its traffic safety program, "Watch Out For Kids."
