Minutes
Hardcover book containing the handwritten minutes from the meetings of Lafayette Fire Company No. 4, partially repurposed as a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of poems and crime stories, as well as theater handbills. Pages at the beginning and end of the book have been pasted over. The discernible entries of minutes span from December 4, 1838 to July 27, 1847. The clippings appear to date from the 1880s. A bookplate on the rear pastedown reads, "Miss Ida Pepin, Detroit, Mich. 628 Fifteenth Street, Sunday rain all day, Oct. 23rd, yr. 1887." And it faces a sepia-toned portrait photograph of actress Helena Modjeska on the rear free endpaper. The book is bound in a dark brown cover with "Lafayette Fire Company No. 4," printed on it in gold.
