Finishing the Job, Progress Building and Expansion Program
Four page folded newsletter published by the Board of Directors of the Detroit Young Men's Christian Association in December 1926 concerning their plans for new branches around the city. The two inner pages are devoted to the Northern Branch on the northwest corner of Woodward Avenue and Winona Street in Highland Park, and the Western Branch on Clark Street between West Vernor Highway and Christiancy Street. It states the former will be open in the fall of 1927, and the latter around January 1, 1928. Both sections are accompanied by an illustration of the building. The back page has information and photos of two completed locations the St. Antoine Street Branch and the Railroad Branch. The St. Antoine Street Brach was located on Elizabeth Street near St. Antoine, and is described as "the finest building for negro men and boys yet erected." The Railroad Branch was on Livernois Avenue at the Michigan Central Railroad line. Both entries are accompanied by photos. Mention is also made of property having been secured for the Southeastern Branch on Jefferson Avenue at Garland Street, as well as planning for the Northwestern Branch, the Northeastern Branch, and the Hamtramck Branch. The Adams Avenue Branch is described as undergoing modernization. A drawing for a new club house at Camp Ohiyesa in Holly is at the bottom of the back page. "Y.M.C.A. (Jan, 1927)" is handwritten on the lower left corner of the front cover.
