Pamphlet

Vertical half-folded campaign pamphlet from Coleman A. Young's 1964 run for Michigan State Senate, for the 4th District, published by the Coleman A. Young Campaign Committee. The pamphlet characterizes Young as a fighter for Civil Rights, and cites his experience as a delegate to the state's Constitutional Convention, a memberships to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, the Wayne County CIO, the National Negro Labor Council, and Democratic State Central Committee. It also notes his 40-year residency in the city's east side, and his service in World War II. Young is pictured in halftone on the front panel, beneath an outline of a key. Within the key is the text, "CIVIL RIGHTS is the Key to any future progress for ALL Americans," and below, the text continues, "Use this KEY, Send a FIGHTER to LANSING." The interior contains a passage enumerating civil rights issues facing the state, and about Young's involvement in civil rights and labor causes, as well as an image of Young superimposed over an orange map of the district. The rear panel contains endorsements from Governor John Swainson, the Pittsburgh Courier, and the Michigan Chronicle, followed by contact information for the Coleman A. Young Campaign Committee.
